Poem: An Elevator To A Different World

As time passed by he slowly slipped out of consciousness,

Darkness began to engulf his thoughts

A voice filled his head - sounding monotonous

As if he woke up from the dead,

Stepped into the hallway which reminded him of his late grandfather

Empty & not a soul to be seen - just an elevator up ahead

He knew this was happening all in his head,

But something made him walk towards the elevator - as if it was calling him

Rather than walking towards the dark, he walked into the elevator instead

After a brief journey, he could smell it

It smelled like honey & roses

He was now in a bright sunny garden, he touched the roses to see if it was legit

It was all different, from a dark hallway to a bright sunny garden

It was as if he was traveling back into the past

Was this heaven?

The past illuminated in front of his eyes,

Some made sense while some didn’t

Forgotten memories came to him as a surprise

Suddenly a violent rumbling made him shiver,

Something was happening

He looked back & it was the river,

As a child, he used to play there

As he stepped closer - the fog got thicker

Soon he was in the fog, could hear nothing

Hit his foot on something solid

Suddenly he heard, a low yet obnoxious humming

As a guide to leave the fog, he walked

Suddenly he woke

Soon he realized, the reality was back - the memory of the experience? Lost.
