i love you

i love you. i want to hold your hand. i want to grab your hand and help you climb onto the bus. i want to walk on the outer side of the sidewalk, so you don’t have to. i want to give you the first bite of my food. when we sit in the garden, i want to take the leaves out of your hair. i want to give you a better place to sit. i want to lean my head on your shoulder. i want to get you a glass of water after you’ve returned from a tiring day. i want to help you do your laundry. i want to iron your clothes and put them in the cupboard. the next day, i want to watch you wearing them. i want to give you random tender touches. i want to give you your towel when you forget to take it with you to the bath. i want to clean the house with you. when we run out of cereal, i want to go to the store with you. i want to remind you to take your meds. i want to ask you how your day was. i want to go to that coffee place you like and get you your coffee just the way you want it. i want to help you change the bedsheets. i want to get your keys to you if you forget them. i want to call you in the afternoon to ask if you had lunch. i want to go to the tailor to pick up that dress you gave him to mend. i want to stand in queues, so you don’t have to. i want to help you fill out that form you’ve been putting off. i want to fall asleep watching tv shows with you. i want to drink chai and have long, meandering conversations with you. i want to wake you up when your alarm cannot. when you’re sick, i want to take care of you. i love you.
