Conflict Between The Mind & The Heart

Which one should you choose? The heart or the mind? Which one according to you gives you the right direction/right path to follow? Does the heart always tell the truth or does the mind? It's very subjective because it’s said that those who only listen to their mind are rationalists, who in the process of following it sometimes emotionally ignore solving the problem. On the other end, those who only follow their heart sometimes overlook logic & end up overwhelming themselves, which complicates the situation.

On this particular topic, I’d like to share a short poem that shares a little bit of personal touch :

Should I go left or right, is this the right decision or the wrong one?

Take the left path says my heart - no, take the right path says my mind

So I venture to the left path only to face hurdles & filled with doubts

Days of regret & self isolation,

A wrong step put me through a rough storm

Once a wrong step made a huge change - path filled with storms, thorns & quicksand

So afraid to step outside the shadows,

Fear to take risks resulted in losing dedication

Days filled with only looking for answers - but found none

Shying away from the hurdles, pushed me deep into the shadows

It got colder & darker

Slowly letting go of reality - slipping towards a world with no end

One day in the shadows came a man who held my hand & said “you’re not done yet, get up” Like a magnet, a sudden shock rocked my senses

So deep into the shadows, the path was foggy

This time my mind said to walk straight without looking back,

Should I go? My heart once again says no

Gave my mind the benefit of the doubt & walked straight ahead

Soon the cold sensation that covered my arms disappeared bit by bit,

As the end of the shadows approached the warmth of the light filled my soul The answer to my problem - lay straight ahead & there was no stopping now

As noticed in the short poem, it was depicted that for the situation I personally went through when I was in middle school, listening to my mind helped me to pave a path towards the solution to my problem. What really happened to me was that during my finals in class 9 there was a clash between me & my best friend at the time. We fought a lot & ended up distancing each other from talking for days & this stress impacted my examination. Months after the examination got over & the results coming way below expectations I drowned myself in self pity, but one day that changed everything was when I ran into my best friend who explained how he misunderstood what I had to say because he came across our mutual friend who explained to him the cause of the miscommunication.

So to end, the conflict between the mind & the heart is subjective because it depends on the situation entirely. For some a more emotional approach is more appropriate but for some a logical approach is the answer to their problem.

Please Note: The mind and heart are used symbolically to represent our logical and emotional decision making capacity of brain. Image used is just for representation purpose.
